Incapacity Benefit to Employment Support Allowance Migration Have your say
What is the issue? All those who have been on out-of work sickness benefits other than ESA, such as Incapacity Benefit, are being reassessed during the next three years to see if they are entitled to Employment Support Allowance (ESA). Citizens Advice are keen to monitor the process, to see whether people are treated fairly and whether any medical evidence they have is taken properly into account. They are particularly keen to collect evidence about certain points in the system, such as the decision maker’s phone call to say whether someone is going to be found fit for work. In some cases this call may be genuinely helpful, but Citizens Advice are concerned that there is a danger of it being used to persuade people that it isn’t worth appealing. They also want to build a picture of the general administration of the migration and find out how people are personally affected. How can you help? To monitor the process Citizens Advice is asking people to fill in a short ‘diary’ as they go through the ESA claiming process. It is a simple survey, with a section that can be completed at each stage of the claiming process or in one go at the end of the process if they prefer. Responses are completely confidential and anonymous. A paper copy of the ‘diary’ is available from Ash CAB together with the address to send it to. Please call or phone the bureau if you would like a copy (01252 315569). Alternatively diaries can be completed online at [ www.surveymonkey.com/s/esadiary ]
